Show HN: Color-Coded Map of Which Areas Are Nice in San Francisco
pleasetrymyapp.comI'm visiting SF and I built this quick demo app for an Antler hackathon. It shows which neighborhoods are pleasant or unpleasant and a brief description & highlights. I showed this to some folks when I visited the Founders, Inc. office recently and they seemed to like it, so I decided to share it here, too!
Whenever I visit a new city or when I was temporarily moving to Austin, simply looking at Google Maps isn't helpful (bunch of meaningless gray streets). To understand a city, I'd have to do some combination of: read Reddit posts for recommended areas, search for annotated map images, glance at hoodmaps.com (funny, but not always actually helpful), look up crime maps, watch YouTube videos that talk about a city, etc.
I've always just wished for there to exist an annotated map app where I could understand a city from a local's perspective. So here's a prototype!
Future work:
* conduct cluster analysis of highly rated POI to highlight must-go recreational streets on the map.
* Claude is currently generating the scoring, which isn't reliable. I'll need to replace the scoring with an algorithm based on real data.
Please let me know what you'd like to see for this kind of a map. Thank you!
